Sky’s the limit for Mechelle

-

An intrepid Airdrie woman is all set to skydive to continue raising funds for her chosen charity.

Mechelle Barbour will take on the leap at Strathallan airfield this weekend in aid of Water Aid, to support their work in Malawi.

She has already supported the charity, which is marking its 40th anniversary, by completing a series of 5km runs with relatives, friends and colleagues from Scottish Water and organising a charity giveaway with the help of local businesses.

Ahead of her first-ever skydive, Mechelle said: “I’m so excited. It’s such a great cause and I’m achieving an activity that’s way out of my comfort zone.

“I want to inspire others to go for it, do what they love, want to achieve or something that makes you scared. Water Aid does essential work which is life-changing, by helping support communities, families and children, who desperately need safe water, toilet facilities and good hygiene.

“It’s one of life’s essentials we often take for granted, and I want to encourage my family, friends and colleagues to help those in need and do something for charity.”

Mechelle has spent four years working with Scottish Water, whose employees raise funds all year round to support Water Aid’s projects in Malawi as part of the Deliver Life scheme, including reaching schools and hospitals with clean water.

Elizabeth Mckernan of Water Aid thanked Mechelle and her colleagues, saying:“we’re tackling the double threat of Covid-19 and climate change, and we need to do everything we can to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene a normal part of everyday life for everyone, everywhere.”
