Open invitation to join free short health walks

- IAN BUNTING

A Lanarkshire project which runs short walks every week has issued an open invitation to Monklands locals to join them this summer.

Get Walking Lanarkshire hosts 30 health walks which are free, friendly strolls lasting no longer than an hour and led by trained volunteers.

The low-level walks are a great way to meet new people and enjoy the mood-boosting benefits of regular walking.

Get Walking Lanarkshire coordinator Paula Hubens told the Advertiser: “As restrictions ease further, now is the best time to join your local health walk.

“Our walk leaders and walkers are excited to welcome new people along to the walks and for them to reap the social, mental and physical health benefits from getting outdoors and walking with others.

“All health walks follow the Covid-19 government guidelines and we hope this will provide new walkers with the reassurance they need.”

Booking is essential for the walks and the Monklands-based strolls take place as follows:

– Mondays, at 11am from St Andrew’s Hospice’s outpatient department on Henderson Street, Airdrie.

– Tuesdays, at 10.30am at Drumpellier Park, Coatbridge; meet at the picnic benches to the side of the visitor centre.

– The first, third and fifth Saturdays of each month, at 11.00am in Calderbank; meet at the rainbow gate at the bottom of Woodhall Avenue.

– And the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, at 11am in Sikeside; meet outside I.C Hair, Sikeside Street.
