Gabby Mcgill is full of confidence and he believes he will score whenever he steps on the pitch.

The Airdrie forward is in a rich vein of form with three goals and an assist in his last three games in League One, and netted what proved to be the winner in a 3-2 win over Peterhead on Saturday to deliver a first win of the season.

Confidence is paramount for strikers and Mcgill has that in abundance after a blistering start since joining from Dunfermline.

“Whenever I step on the pitch I believe that I’m going to score,” Mcgill admitted. “It’s a mindset

I’ve had from my academy days.

“I know if I get regular game time then I’ll get back to the confidence of stepping on the pitch and scoring every game.

“Even coming off the bench against Queen of the South in the cup and scoring, I just feel really confident again.

“I’ve not managed to get a lot of first team action the last couple of years so I was unsure if the confidence would come back.

“But with the way that we play and the chances that we create that I’ll do well. I believe that I’ll score every time I play and if we create a chance then I’ll take it.”

At Peterhead, the 20-year-old collected Callum Gallagher’s pass before stroking the ball home and believes a win was on the cards.

“It was a massive win,” Mcgill added. “Our performances have been good, minus Montrose when we were poor, but we’ve not had the results.

“We were miles better against Dumbarton but we lost two goals in a crazy ten minute period, after losing a man,and we were the better team against Falkirk.

“Thankfully, we got the result this weekend and we were the better side. You look back at the performance thinking it should have been miles more.”

Airdrie battled through adversity to beat Peterhead after five of their players recorded positive Covid tests last week.

Mcgill revealed the uncertainty of the situation but insisted the health of players and their families was paramount.

He added: “Our last training session was on Tuesday and a few of the lads recorded positive tests on the lateral flows.

“They had to get proper tests and we turned up at training to be told that we needed to stay in our cars and do a test.

“Five of the players ended up positive and most of them were defenders so it was a tough ask.

“We knew that we were alright but you do worry about people with young kids and wives. Health always comes first.”
