Cup clash chance to freshen side
Albion Rovers bos Brian Reid admits he will freshen up his squad for the visit of St Mirren B in Saturday’s SPFL Trust Trophy clash.
The young Buddies will arrive at Cllifton hill off the back of a first round win over Rovers’ league Two rivals Kelty Hearts in the first round on penalties.
Reid will use the break from league business to give game-time to players making their way back from injury, but insists he is still taking the game seriously.
On the clash, he said: “It’s a cup game, we’re at home, and we want to go out and try and win the game.
“I think we’ll freshen the squad up a wee bit and maybe give a chance to some players who haven’t had much game-time of late, and try and get their match fitness up as well.
“It’s an opportunity for them to go and show that they’re good enough to start the next game, and that’s the way we’re looking at it.
“I’ve always said the league is our bread and butter, it’s our main priority, but we won’t underestimate this game at all, we’ll be professional about it and try to win.”
The game, which has an early kick-off of 1.30pm, also provides the chance for Rovers to end their run of three straight defeats, following the recent losses to Elgin City, Annan Athletic and Stirling Albion.
Reid added: “it’s important that the players try to get back to winning ways.
“Whether it’s a cup or a league game we are playing, we want to boost the confidence a wee bit and try to get back on track.”
