Forty new carers jobs created at firm’s base

- JUDITH TONNER

A healthcare company is creating 40 new jobs for carers at its North Lanarkshire base.

Cera, based in Coatbridge, has opened applications for the permanent and full-time roles supporting older people in their homes.

The company says its recruitment drive will provide additional carers for older people across North Lanarkshire and help provide local employment opportunities.

Officials are “particularly keen to hear from individuals looking to transition into a new career from sectors hardest hit by the pandemic, and with transferable skills for care – such as retail, hospitality, cleaning and the wider gig economy”.

Cera co-founder and chief executive Dr Ben Maruthappu said: “The pandemic has accelerated a marked shift in social care, with more and more older people wanting to receive care in their own homes; and this trend will continue even when the pandemic is finally behind us.

“By bringing new talent into the sector, particularly those from industries which have been impacted by the recession and have transferable skills, we can better support older people throughout our communities, protect vital NHS resources and get people back to work in a stable and hugely rewarding career.”

The company was founded four years ago and now has 12,000 service users and 6000 staff across Britain, and uses digital technology including an app providing updated health information to relatives and doctors.
