Drumpellier denied promotion
Drumpellier’s promotion hopes from the Western District Cricket Union First Division were ended on Saturday, despite a thumping 10-wicket win over Helensburgh.
The Langloan side made 94 runs with no losses in 15.2 overs, with Helensburgh reaching 91 all out in 39.3 overs.
However, wins for East Kilbride and Kelburn at Renfrew and Ayr leave Drumpellier in fourth place.
Drumpellier won the toss and opted to bat first in the 45-over game, with Helensburgh having been caught in traffic.
The hosts had a stranglehold on the Helensburgh batting, as Jordan Pryde and Nick Pyne let them only have 11 runs in as many overs, and in the 14th, Sabir Khan was LBW for 11 to Mohsin Khan.
Luke Smith and Syed Ishtiaq put on 30 in six overs, before the latter was stumped by Nathan Allison off the bowling of Aziz Raza for 11. He was followed by Smith for 11 when he was LBW to Raza, with the visitors on 49-3 in the 21st over.
Khan and Raza only gave up 20 runs over 10 overs, and removed Rajitha Kodithuwakku Arachchi when he was caught at third-man with a diving dive.
In the 34th over, Joshua Allison removed Callum Thornton for 13 LBW, and in the next over Khan removed Duncan Stephens and Matthew Pendle, before
Khan removed Oscar Jamieson, leaving them on 91 all out.
Drumpellier carved up the Helensburgh bowling with 50 runs in 10 overs, with Ross Heginbottom on 30, and Ian Warden on 20, then smashed 44 off the next 5.2 overs to win by 10 wickets.
Heginbottom ended on 45, Warden on 42.
Drumpellier travel to Paisley to take on Kelburn, to see who goes up, should EK lose to Kilmarnock.
