Agnew fought off Covid fatigue
Scott Agnew revealed he came through Covid fatigue to help Airdrie take a point off League One leaders Queen’s Park.
The Diamonds’ player/assistant manager was one of a number of stars to test positive for the virus last month and admits he felt shattered during the first half at Firhill, before finding a second wind after the break.
Neither side could find a way to goal in the 0-0 stalemate, but the attacking midfielder, who was playing a deeper role in front of the back four, admitted it was a struggle for him early on.
Aggy said:“i’ve not trained much. Testing positive wasn’t ideal and we’ve got some injuries at the moment, so I just came in, looking to do a job in front of the back four.
“In the first half I didn’t feel great, to be honest, I was really fatigued, but I was fine in the second half, so I think it’s something you just have to gradually get out of your system.
“I think it drains you and I think Calum Gallagher will tell you the same.
“It’s not just the virus, it’s 10 days without training as well.
“It was a difficult game. Queen’s Park are obviously a good side, they are leading the table at the moment.
“I thought defensively we were very good and our shape was good.
“It took us about 15-20 minutes to settle into the game and we were up against it a bit, but once we settled in we were comfortable defensively but we need to be a bit better going forward.”
As the Advertiser went to press, Airdrie were hosting Alloa in a game re-arranged from their Covid outbreak. On Saturday they host East Fife at 3pm.
