Charlie Reilly hopes Albion Rovers can cause an upset against League Two leaders Kelty Hearts on Saturday – but says they will need to hit top form to do so.

Midfielder Reilly insists the confidence Rovers have gained since their 6-0 SPFL Trust Trophy win over St Mirren ‘B’ a fortnight ago has been massive, and that carried on into Saturday’s 2-1 league win over Cowdenbeath, with goals from Max Wright and Kyle Doherty.

Former Partick Thistle and Hamilton Accies star Reilly says Saturday’s Cliftonhill clash will be a real test, but is confident they can come through it.

Reilly said: “That’s the teams you want to play against, the big teams who are going for the league at the top of the table.

“Hopefully there will be a wee upset and we can get the victory that we’re all wanting.

“To inflict a first defeat on them would be massive, hopefully that’s the case, that we go out and play our best on Saturday, and hopefully get the win.

“It was a good win against Cowdenbeath, and we needed that.

“We weren’t struggling, but we weren’t getting results, but winning 6-0 against St Mirren’s ‘B’ team was a good result and to go out on Saturday and win was just what we needed – just a wee bit of a boost, going into the game against Kelty.

“We had been hitting the woodwork in every game, had been getting closer and closer, and against St Mirren it all just fell into place.

“At the weekend we had our chances, they just weren’t going in, and finally we got a late goal from Kyle, so that was good.

“It’s nice to get a goal at the end for Rovers and not against us!”

Reilly climbed off the bench in 69 minutes to replace Scott Roberts, having been rested to help him get over a niggling injury.

While he admits the injury hasn’t cleared up completely, he says he just needs to be patient with it.

The 19-year-old added: “I feel good, I’m starting to get back to normal still, so I just have to see how I get on this week in training.

“I’ve had a wee niggle over the last couple of weeks and had been playing through it, but the gaffer just wanted to rest me.

“I felt fine on Saturday when I came on. There’s still a wee bit of a niggle, but it’s nothing, it’s just something I’ll have to deal with over the next couple of weeks until it heals properly.”
