Businesses invited to virtual environmental event
Business representatives from across North Lanarkshire are being invited to take part in a virtual industry seminar to find out more about taking environmental actions to move towards net zero.
Local firms including AG Barr, Smurfit Kappa and Eurocentralbased ACS Clothing will share their insights on making changes to reduce their carbon footprint and become more sustainable at the Action on Climate Together event.
The keynote speaker will be sustainable change expert Mike Barry, who led Marks and Spencer’s ground-breaking Plan A programme, while the event will be presented by former BBC broadcaster, meteorologist and physicist Dr Heather Reid.
Organisers say the event – being run alongside energy group
Equans –“will outline how to take sustainable action for cleaner, greener and more profitable businesses”.
It will also include networking opportunities, exhibitors and tips on short-term carbon cuts while planning a long-term sustainable
strategy to reduce emissions.
North Lanarkshire Council has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2030, and enterprise convener Allan Graham said:“this is a real opportunity to hear from a global expert and other resident businesses about how to take positive action now to make a real difference.
“There is so much information on how to be less reliant on fossil fuels, reduce plastic and unnecessary packaging, embrace renewables and new greener technology – but it can be hard to cut through the noise and get first-hand, practical information.
“It’s also crucial that businesses understand current customer consumption trends and sentiment; we’ll hear more about this from the keynote speaker, who has a wealth of experience in sustainability and will highlight how principles can be adapted for smaller enterprises.”
The event takes place from 9am to 11am today (Wednesday)and is open to all businesses based in North Lanarkshire.
