Work set to start on new housing estate

- JUDITH TONNER

“Significant” infrastructure and groundworks are underway in Glenboig as part of a new development of 535 homes, while roadworks will be in place next month.

The work is part of Taylor Wimpey’s construction of its Meadowside development at the former Garnqueen farm, off the village’s Main Street, as part of the community growth area across Glenboig and Gartcosh.

Residents are being advised about potential disturbance from the programme of work, which will take place from 8am to 7pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.

Special projects manager Alison Henderson said: “Our work in Glenboig includes a significant earthworks and grouting programme.

“We do anticipate there may be some noise disturbance while this is completed within our approved hours of operation, and we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause. Health and safety is our number one priority, and we are working closely with our contractor to minimise any disruption or inconvenience within the local community.”

She added: “Work to establish a secondary permanent access into our development off Garnqueen Crescent is planned to start in early October.

“During these minor off-site roadworks, temporary traffic management measures will be needed and our anticipated timescales for completion of this phase of work is a few weeks.”

The latest phase follows three months of pre-construction and preparation, with construction of the two- to four-bedroomed homes due to begin before the end of the year.

Planning permission for the development was granted a year ago and includes a requirement for a £4 million developer contribution towards upgrading schools, play facilities and roads in the area.

Meadowside was chosen as the name for the new estate after it was the winning entry to a competition for pupils at nearby Glenboig Primary.

Residents seeking updates on the work can visit the project website, and can call 01494 509090 or email westscotlandcustomerservices@taylorwimpey.com with any concerns or queries about the work.
