Mistakes killed us, says Wilson

-

Albion Rovers midfielder David Wilson had the belief they could beat league leaders Kelty Hearts – but individual errors cost them dear.

The Cliftonhill side were undone by a perfect hat-trick from Nathan Austin in a 3-0 defeat and Rovers boss Brian Reid accused his side of being nervous.

But Wilson insisted they were the better side for spells and could have taken something off the unbeaten Fifers.

The 27-year-old said: “it’s obviously disappointing. You don’t want to lose 3-0 on any day, but I think at times in the game I thought we were the better side.

“We were moving the ball about well, but some individual errors cost us at times and when we lost that goal, our heads went down a bit.

“We came into the game thinking we could take something out of it.

“Kelty are a good side and haven’t been beaten yet, but there was times when we had good chances and you’ve got to take them to give the team a lift.

“We didn’t do that and made mistakes at the back, so it’s killed us.”

Wilson looked to have grabbed a late consolation from a free-kick. It had the home support cheering what they thought was a goal, but his effort had actually drifted narrowly wide.

He added: “i think it hit the side netting, then the back of the net on the other side. I wish it had gone in.”

Rovers have suffered four defeats in their last five league outings, but will hope to bounce back when they head to Forfar on Saturday.

He added:“we’ve got to put it behind us for Forfar next week, which is going to be another hard game.”
