Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser

Clubbing together to help keep people warm

- IAN BUNTING

Coatbridge, Airdrie & Monklands Rotary Club geared up to help keep the community warm.

The organisation got involved in the Wrap up Lanarkshire campaign, which aims to ensure that, with the onset of winter approaching, nobody is without a clean, warm winter jacket, no matter their personal circumstances.

A Rotary club spokesperson told the Advertiser: “The community has already responded to our call for jackets which people no longer need.

“The response has been overwhelming and the club has teamed up with local charity group Diamonds in the Community, which was set up to promote and encourage inclusion in Airdrie and the surrounding areas through sport.

“Thankfully, they have the premises and space to act as an outlet for the Wrap up Lanarkshire scheme and we cannot thank their team enough for their support.”

Meanwhile, the Rotary club is also “thrilled” to announce that weekly recordings of the Monklands Talking Newspaper are back underway following a “challenging time” during the pandemic.

The recordings, which are targeted to people who are blind and partially sighted, take place in Coatbridge indoor bowling club on Quarry Street and see the team lend their vocal talents to reading the Advertiser.

The Rotary club spokesperson added: “The Talking Newspaper’s annual general meeting is scheduled for October 28 at 12.15pm. Staff, helpers and listeners are all welcome to attend.

“And if you know anyone in the community in need of, or who would benefit from, this service then call 01236 423982 or go online at http://monklandstn. co.uk.”
