Eyes down for a £1m bingo boost for hospice
Kind-hearted players of the St Andrew’s Hospice Lottery have dug deep to help raise an incredible £1 million over the past year.
Defying the coronavirus pandemic, these magnificent funds help to deliver “compassionate, expert care to local people” across the Lanarkshire communities the Airdrie hospice serves.
The lottery, which is £1 per week to play, is a crucial source of income for the charity.
The past year has been a particularly challenging time for fundraising but the regular income from supporters’ lottery contributions has been a financial lifeline, enabling the hospice to provide vital care and support to those living with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones, both in the hospice and throughout Lanarkshire communities.
John Brady, the hospice’s head of fundraising, told the Advertiser: “Thanks to the commitment and hard work of our dedicated lottery team, income from the weekly lottery has passed £1 million.
“The kindness shown by the people of Lanarkshire has helped fund our vital services at a time when our usual events had to be cancelled.
“This generosity has made a real impact, with the hospice being able to maintain vital services throughout the pandemic, helping families create special memories together and ensuring our patients live as actively as they can, for as long as they can and have the best quality of life possible.
“We’ve listened to the feedback from the general public and some people have said they would prefer to make a monthly
donation rather than play the weekly lottery.
“So, our team of canvassers are now promoting a new service where people can donate £10 per
month if they prefer.
“They will always be wearing a St Andrew’s Hospice t-shirt or jacket and will always have ID with them so please look out for
them in your area.”
