Rocky Road powerful but grim viewing

The Road GREAT! Movies, Thursday at 11.10pm ●●●●●

Bleak is the word for this one; if you are looking for a happy night’s viewing, The Road won’t be for you.

However, it’s a powerful, superbly acted film with very impressive set and location design that perfectly showcases a dying world.

Viggo Mortensen puts in a top-class display. Physically he’s painfully thin and his on-screen emotions feel true.

Kodi Smitmcphee is also very good and the small, personal moments he and Mortensen share are terrific.

The apocalyptic events are never explained but this isn’t that kind of movie; it’s a story about a father and son’s fight to survive and mutual love.
