Horror has enough scares to satisfy

Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water Various

-

Lurking around dark places with just a torch and a camera is never a good idea — unless you’re making a survival horror game like this remaster of 2015’s Nintendo Wii U title.

You follow Yuri Kozukata, Miu Hinasaki and Ren Hojo as they explore Mount Hikami, a place where many came to die, and the secrets it hides.

The camera is your everything and is used to destroy ghosts and to spot items.

Once defeated, you can touch spirits and see how they died. The game forces you to re-explore the same set of areas multiple times, with new parts added each time.

It can be a bit annoying but it all adds to the tension. The story is not particularly developed with no clear idea of what links the main characters until late on.

However, there are enough jump scares to keep you gripped.

Also out now is Doctor Who: The Edge Of Reality for Xbox, Playstation, Switch and PC.

First launched as a VR game, this is a fan-must, even if the gameplay is so-so. With Jodie Whittaker voicing the Doctor and a short appearance from David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, you are the Doctor’s companion on their latest mission, with famous favourites including Daleks, Weeping Angels and Cybermen.

The problem is the controls are a bit iffy and the challenges are not all that challenging.

You have to be a dedicated Doctor Who fan to really get behind this one.
