Woman hospitalised after tower block fire
A woman was taken to hospital after fire broke out on the 12th floor of a Coatbridge tower.
Nine fire engines and numerous other emergency service responders raced to the blaze at Dunbeth Court in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Paramedics attended to a number of residents at the scene at the high-rise block in the town centre after the fire broke out just before 3am.
Residents were evacuated from neighbouring properties and supported by staff from North Lanarkshire Council as firefighters tackled the fire.
One eyewitness told of the immediate “major response” by emergency services, while another shared a dramatic video showing flames from the affected floor.
A spokesperson for the
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Advertiser: “We were alerted at 2.47am on Sunday, November 14, to reports of a fire affecting the 12th floor of a multi-storey block of flats at Dunbeth Court, Coatbridge.
“Operations Control mobilised nine appliances and other resources to the scene to extinguish the fire.
“A number of residents were checked at the scene by paramedics and one adult female was taken to hospital.
“Firefighters left after making the area safe.”
A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council told the Advertiser: “We worked closely with colleagues from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to ensure that nearby properties were safely evacuated and that our residents were fully supported.
“The fire was fully contained to the flat where it originated and all tenants were able to safely return to their homes.”
