Snap up chance to enjoy photo project

-

Monklands secondary-aged pupils have the exciting chance to take part in a newly-launched photojournal project at Summerlee museum in Coatbridge.

Twenty21 is for youngsters interested in social and local history, and will see participants share the stories of a range of specially-invited guests with a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.

It aims to explore topical subjects including climate change, LGBTQ+ history, immigration and migration, international women, urban decay and Scottish language, with participants creating podcasts and photographic portraits of each week’s visitor.

Participants will receive training in interview techniques, photography, and archiving and exhibiting work at Summerlee, becoming“young curators”of the lottery-funded project.

The free sessions take place on Saturdays from 1.15pm to 3.15pm in the photomedia studio at the museum on Heritage Way, with snacks also being provided.

Organisers can also deliver online sessions for schools on Friday afternoons as part of the new Future Fridays timetable introduced in North Lanarkshire secondaries earlier this year.

Places can be booked by emailing David Peace, and more details are available at http://www.culturenl. co.uk/twenty21
