Shields nets first goal for Steelmen
Coatbridge star Connor Shields netted his first goal for Motherwell on Saturday and says putting the hours in during the international break helped them dump 10-man Hearts 2-0.
Shields’effort was also his debut Premiership following his summer switch from
Queen of the South.
The former St Ambrose High School pupil said:“it was good, I thought we were brilliant from the first minute.
“They didn’t really get a chance to get it down and play. We kept them high pressed in their own half and it was a brilliant performance.
“I think that’s because we prepared so well. We worked hard last week; with there being no game due to the internationals we worked on a lot of stuff that we put into today and you could see that, because we played brilliantly right from the first whistle.”
Shields’goal came as‘well boss Graham Alexander revealed the player had asked for a loan move.
Alexander said:“we had a conversation a few weeks ago when he was maybe looking to possibly go out on loan, but I told him he was going nowhere – he will score goals for us in the Premiership.”
