Long and winding road to stardom?

Producer reckons Robyn Red has the potential to make it

- GREGOR FARQUHARSON

A teenage singer has been working on her musical skills – and hopes that 2022 will usher in more opportunities.

Robyn Red, from Airdrie, has made a name for herself locally as a top cover artist, but is hoping to branch out and begin to release her own, original material.

That has seen her team up with Motherwell music tutor and producer Scott Somers, who hopes to teach her more about the music industry.

Scott has played in bands for years and has a home studio, where he is able to help Robyn develop her own songs and create a unique sound.

Only 16, Robyn is still trying to find sounds and styles that work best for her, but hopes by working with Scott she will be able to find herself musically.

She already has a number of gigs lined up, including a huge opening slot opportunity at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut this Sunday.

Robyn told the Advertiser: “The gig at King Tut’s will be a great one and I am really excited for it.

“This will give me a chance to play some of my new material to people who have never heard of me and really prove myself as a singer.

“Having worked with Scott, we are really developing and trying to find my own sound and move away from being a cover artist.

“I would love for music to one day become my full-time job and be able to play all over the world to people.

“By releasing my own music and with Scott’s help I hope I’ll get more gig opportunities and my songs will be able to reach more people.

“He has been such a great help in teaching me about this industry.”

Scott Somers speaks highly of Robyn and hopes he can help her start to live out her dream.

He has previously worked with young singer Connor Fyfe, who has gone on to sell-out gigs all around Scotland.

He told us: “Robyn definitely has the potential to make it and she is still so young so there is lots of work we can do to help her.

“I worked with Connor Fyfe, who is now the youngest ever person to sell out King Tut’s, so I hope we can see similar things with Robyn soon.

“I’m glad I am here to help as there is a lot of people in the industry who are just looking for a quick buck. I really want to help her get where she wants to be and develop into a real singersongwriter.”
