Business driven to motor on with festive gifts for kids
A big-hearted Monklands business is asking for a children’s Christmas gift as payment for luxury car washes at a special event this weekend.
Blackbeard’s Detailing will be hosting their third annual Toy Drive on Sunday in aid of Coatbridge Community Foodank – and are hoping they can help to give kids in need a great festive season.
Monklands car owners are invited to bring their motor along for the luxury hand wash, worth up to £30, in exchange for an unwrapped toy.
The goodies, which totalled up to £3500 worth of gifts last year, will be dropped off to the foodbank who will then distribute the items to local families.
The event will take place at 87 Deerdykes View, Westfield Industrial Estate, in Cumbernauld, from 10am to 2pm.
Ross Campbell, 36, who started detailing cars in his driveway, now runs Blackbeard’s Detailing, a tailor made studio, alongside wife Fiona, 42.
The couple, who live in Bargeddie with their son Maxwell, four, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Toy Drive once again to support the great work of the foodbank and to give something back to the community.
“Every child deserves a present on Christmas Day, and we hope that these toys can help give some children a special Christmas.
“We would kindly ask people to donate an unwrapped toy in lieu of payment. The toys should be left unwrapped so that the charity can see which age group it would suit best.
“Cars are washed using the ‘safe wash’ method which involves a pre-wash, snow foam, two-bucket wash, polymer sealant application and alloy wheels cleaning, and the car is then dried.”
The kind-hearted duo added: “We carried out our first Charity Toy Drive in December 2019, just to try it out, and it was a great success.
“Our friends from Fulcrum Training have pledged £100 and are helping to wash the cars on the day. We are also grateful to Smyths Toys at Glasgow Fort who are donating £200 worth of gifts and the donation of an advertising banner from Miyo Brand.
“We’re also awaiting confirmation from some more local groups and businesses for toy donations so hope to have plenty more along with donations made during the Toy Drive”.
Coatbridge Foodbank provide support to local people and is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until 2.30pm.
Referrals can be made via GPS, police, Citizens Advice Bureaux, social work and churches. Once a referral has been made, a week’s supply of food will be provided.
