W/D grab first league win of their season

-

Waysiders/drumpellier coach Gerry Brankin says self-belief was the key as they picked up their first Tennent’s West League 2 win of the season by beating Uddingston 24-20 at Langloan.

That’s one win in six, leaving them on three points following a deduction, and Brankin says he’s confident about taking more from Saturday’s visit to Clydebank.

He said: “we totally dominated up front and they had a decent set of backs who ran back at us.

“It was a decent game, it was evenly matched the whole way and with a couple of minutes to go we were two scores ahead.

“It was a hard game, not as physical as some of the others have been, but up front our pack was thoroughly dominant.

“I think the difference this time was that we had that wee bit more self-belief going forward.

“When we got close to the line we didn’t go for the stupid Hollywood pass, we just played it safe, and because our scrum was so dominant we hit them hard.”

On the visit to Clydebank, Brankin said: “clydebank are sitting just above us in the table, which surprises me, because they gave us a time of it earlier in the season.

“If we played like we did on Saturday we’ll definitely be able to give them a game, and I think we could even sneak it. We need to start picking up points but we also want a run of games.”
