Road closed after pair injured in accident
Two people were hospitalised and a main road closed by police following a road traffic incident early last Wednesday morning.
The single-vehicle accident took place on the A80 Cumbernauld Road at Chryston around 7.40am.
A car travelling on the eastbound lanes of the dual carriageway, in the direction of Moodiesburn, lay badly damaged at the side of the road as police officers on foot combed the A80 at Chryston.
Following heavy overnight rain, there were a number of large puddles in the vicinity.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Advertiser:“officers were called to the A80 Cumbernauld Road at around 7.40am on
Wednesday, December 1, following a road crash involving one vehicle.
“Emergency services attended and two people, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital for treatment.”
The road remained closed for a time to allow a collision investigation to be conducted at the scene.
In August 2017, a pensioner on a bike was fatally injured at the site of this latest incident after she was involved in a collision with a Citroen C1.
The 83-year-old woman died two days later in hospital.
Prior to the opening of the M80 Moodiesburn bypass in 2011, the section of the A80 was the main road link for drivers travelling between Glasgow and the north of the country.
