Make a beeline for charity Santa dash

- BY JUDITH TONNER

A Coatbridge charity supporter is among those putting her best foot forward to raise festive funds.

Joanne Keltie will join those taking part in the virtual Santa dash in aid of Beatson Cancer Charity.

It involves completing a 5km run or walk during this week – with the good cause kitting out participants with Santa hats to wear as they complete their challenge.

Joanne said:“i’m taking part in the Santa Dash due to the work the Beatson did in helping my friend’s father towards the end of his life last

year. It’s reassuring to know that in that situation, if faced with it myself

or with a loved one, I would feel some comfort in knowing the best care was being received.”

The Beatson charity provides support such as complementary therapies for patients undergoing treatment at the Beatson cancer centre, with more than 14,000 people having benefited.

Its work includes supporting the centre’s satellite radiotherapy facility at Monklands Hospital, which opened six years ago to serve Lanarkshire patients.

Adults can participate in the Santa dash for an entry fee of £10, while under-16s contribute £5 and under-fives and dogs go free at the virtual event , which was promoted by Beatson mascot Bella Bee and “ambassadog”milo.

More information is available on the charity’s website.

Beatson community fundraising manager Maisie Mccormick said: “Events like this are hugely important. The impact of Covid has been huge for all charities. This is a great way to be able to raise money to continue to help patients and families who are living with cancer throughout Christmas and beyond.”
