Pensioner hit by car at crossing

A 79-year-old woman was taken to hospital after she was hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing.

The “serious road crash” happened last Wednesday, December 15, on the A725 around 6.10pm.

Police officers say the elderly woman was hit by a silver Peugeot 208 as she crossed at Coatbank Street, near to its junction with Faraday retail park.

The woman was taken to Wishaw General before being transferre­d to the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Glasgow where staff describe her condition as “serious but stable”.

The 42-year-old male driver of the car was uninjured.
