It’s bloodthirst for the older gamer
If you’re an older gamer who likes a bit of grit and gore, then this could be the game for you.
This online multiplayer survival horror is the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series, as it’s developed by the same people and carries across several gameplay themes.
Back 4 Blood’s primary game sees you join a four-person team of post-apocalypse survivors, known as‘cleaners’, who battle their way through maps populated with zombie creatures called The Ridden.
Depending on preference, you can choose to play with three AI (computer controlled) teammates, or go online and share the adventure with three friends.
If they want to amp up the action, there’s Swarm mode — an eight-person PVP (player v player) mode, which has four people play as Cleaners, and four play as The Ridden.
There’s also a strong theme of ‘deckbuilding’where players use ‘cards’to adjust various elements of gameplay, such as health, stamina, and damage dealt.
Another great game still available on console for the older gamer is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2.
Now available on the PS5, and XBOX X/S , it is rightly considered one of the greatest sporting games of all time; Pro Skater brought skateboarding to the masses.
Vicarious Visions has neatly bundled both games together, stripping them to their bare and essential elements, then layering them with tweaks and extras.
