Funding helps create jobs and new centre
A Monklands firm is to create 12 new posts and set up a research and development centre after receiving Scottish Enterprise funding supporting the creation of new green jobs.
Chapelhall-based Autonomous iot will invest a total of £500,000 in its plans, with the new full-time permanent employees contributing to its work in tackling climate change.
The company, which was founded in 2019, develops renewable energy products which use solar and wind power, including an intelligent lighting multi-use platform which is already in use by councils, housing authorities and companies across the UK.
Chief executive Bobby Kane told the Advertiser: “Autonomous iot has been punching above its weight throughout its infancy, so I’m thrilled that Scottish Enterprise has acknowledged our value to the Scottish economy, which will help us accelerate our ambitions.
“Fast tracking ideas to commercial product takes a combination of seasoned veterans and graduates right out of university, which underlines our culture – everyone’s ideas matter.
“Working alongside university think tanks and like-minded supply chain partners gives us the catalyst for success; and along with this invaluable support from Scottish Enterprise’s green jobs funding, this will help us grow Autonomous iot’s contribution both to the Scottish economy and to fighting climate change.”
The funding award of £250,000 is part of the Scottish Government’s £100m green jobs fund, with grants going to businesses showing how they would “create or safeguard jobs that relate directly to the transition to net zero or minimise environmental impacts by developing sustainable low-carbon products or services”.
Jane Martin of Scottish Enterprise told us: “The green jobs call was designed specifically to support innovative companies like Autonomous iot, who are helping to create new, quality green jobs that will improve the environment.
“Green economic growth is a longstanding area of focus for Scottish Enterprise and a competitive advantage for Scotland internationally, and the wide range of projects supported highlights the increasingly innovative approaches businesses are taking to tackling the climate emergency.”
