Man who was ‘loved by many’ dies after tragic road accident
A beloved Coatbridge dad-of-three, who tragically died after being struck by a car last Thursday, has been hailed as “wonderful”, a “legend” and “loved by many”.
Johnny Gallagher was the victim of the shocking accident on Whifflet Street, which occurred at around 7.20pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information relating to the tragic incident as family and friends of Mr Gallagher, who had a grandchild on the way, lined up to pay heartfelt tributes to the popular 72-year-old. Johnny’s daughter-inlaw, Lauren Gallagher, took to social media to say just how much he meant to his loved ones.
She said: “He was loved by many.
“Thank you to those who have reached out.
“RIP Johnny G, you will be missed greatly.”
A police spokesperson told the Advertiser: “We are looking to speak to anyone who was in the Whifflet Street area at the time or has dash-cam footage of the incident to get in touch via 101.”
Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a “wonderful” Coatbridge dadof-three who tragically died after being hit by a car on a street in his home town.
Johnny Gallagher, 72, was the victim of the shocking accident on Whifflet Street, which happened at around 7.20pm last Thursday.
Johnny has been fondly remembered by his heartbroken family, who say he was “loved by many”.
Daughter-in-law Lauren Gallagher paid tribute to Johnny on social media following the fatal incident.
She wrote: “Last night our family had a very shocking and sad turn of events.
“My husband and wonderful brothers-inlaw lost their father. He was hit by a car and didn’t survive.
“He died at 72 and was loved by many. Thank you to those who have reached out, we’re going to be making plans once we have a moment to collect ourselves.
“RIP Johnny G, you will be missed greatly.” Others also paid tribute to Mr Gallagher, who had a grandchild on the way at the time of his death.
He was described as a “legend” who was well known in the town.
Lea-ann Veldon said: “He was a legend, will be sorely missed by many.
“R.I.P Johnny G, Whifflet legend.”
June Greenshields added: “Tragic. Knew him years ago and saw him in the Whifflet very often. So sad. R.I.P Johnny xxx”
While Patrick Gorman wrote: “Rip Johnny G. He will be missed.”
And Jim Glavin said: “Very sorry to hear this.
“Nice man who I always spoke to in the Barnyard, with a Guinness of course. RIP Johnny.”
Johnny lost his life just one hour after another fatal crash in Lanarkshire.
A 55-year-old woman was hit by a car on Croftfoot Road, near Rutherglen, at 6.35pm the same evening and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sergeant John Tait told the Advertiser: “Sadly two fatal road crashes have occurred in the region in a short space of time.
“We are looking to speak to anyone who was in the Whifflet Street area at the time or has dash-cam footage of the incident to get in touch via 101.”
