Scotland is calling and there are more than 100 brilliant places you can visit at a fraction of the cost.

Visitor attraction­s, activities and day tour operators across the country have joined forces with Visitscotl­and to offer discounted tickets, making it even more affordable to have fun.

Participat­ing businesses are ‘Good to Go’ for

Covid measures, and many are offering up to 50% off (up to £20 per ticket) their experience­s, which is ideal if you’re watching the pennies after the festive season. Just remember to take lateral flow tests before mixing with other people. Great Days Out offers run until 18 February (subject to availabili­ty), so book soon or you might miss out.

Kids will love the

Gruffalo Trail at Ardkinglas Gardens, near Inverary, Argyll which is a gorgeous setting for a woodland walk or run about.

The Dundee Science Centre is a fantastic place to inspire young minds with hands-on learning, especially if the weather is not playing ball.

Over in Ayrshire, the Scottish Maritime Museum is a brilliant location if you have kids to amuse. It’s easy to pass hours exploring the history of Scottish ships that sailed the world.

If history is your thing,

Gladstone’s Land, in Edinburgh, takes visitors through three centuries of history and is a landmark attraction that all ages will enjoy – including a new ice cream parlour.

There are also some tour companies in the Great Days Out promotion that will whisk you away for the day so you can just sit back and enjoy the experience.

Highland Explorer Tours have a lovely Whisky & Waterfalls tour, which sets off from Edinburgh and takes in stunning scenery before stopping at the Wallace Monument near Stirling, then Black Linn Falls and the charming cathedral town of Dunkeld with the option of a whisky distillery tour - all in one day!

For those who haven’t yet seen the Falkirk Wheel, this is your chance.

This extraordin­ary constructi­on is Scotland’s most exciting example of 21st century engineerin­g and is the world’s only rotating boat lift. But there’s so much more to see here, including a children’s activity zone, canoeing, bike hire and woodland walks.
