FAMILY’S TRAUMA AFTER ROAD RAGE PASSING CLASH

Dad suffers fractured shoulder

- JUDITH TONNER

An Airdrie dad was injured after he and his young family were involved in a frightening closepassing incident with a lorry while exercising their horses on a main road in the town.

Edward Henderson was clipped by a lorry – resulting in a fractured shoulder – as he stood waiting to help his children manoeuvre into his family’s farm in Caldercruix at the end of their journey around local routes.

He says that he and his daughter and son, aged 12 and 17, have been left “traumatised”, and says that vehicles which are overtaking or speeding on the A89 present a regular concern for horse riders and other vulnerable road users.

Now he is calling for safety measures, including new signs to be put in place, and for drivers to give greater consideration to all those using the roads.

The community cafe at New Wellwynd parish church will resume next Friday, February 4.

It runs from 10am to 1pm in the church hall at the Airdrie town centre venue, with all welcome .

Refreshments including snacks and cakes are on offer, while there will also be a nearly-new stall with bargains including bric-a-brac and clothes.

Details of attendees will be taken for test and protect as the cafe reopens its doors for the first time in 2022.
