Take on reading challenge to help de-stress and reduce anxiety

-

The 2022 Read Well NL Challenge is encouraging the people of Monklands to read for just six minutes per day to help improve their wellbeing.

Research shows that regular reading has a positive effect on health and wellbeing, and those who read are less stressed as it helps reduce anxiety and depression.

So, the organisation has launched the challenge to encourage locals to reap the rewards of reading.

Library staff want residents to sign up to take part, with all participants entered into a prize draw to win £50 worth of book tokens as an added incentive.

Mary Wilson, mental health officer at North Lanarkshire Council, highlighted the benefits of reading and encouraged people to take the challenge and pick up a book.

She said:“i absolutely love reading and agree that it is great for stress.

“I have also noticed that I de-stress from the moment I walk into a library. I feel so relaxed. This challenge is a great way to help residents introduce reading to their daily routine.”

Participants can sign up for free by popping into a North Lanarkshire library or visiting www.culturenl.co.uk/ read-well-nl
