Changes to Highway Code

-

New rules are being introduced and updates are being made to pre-existing rules of the Highway Code at the end of the month.

A new“hierarchy of Road Users”is being introduced, which places Monklands road users who are more likely to be at risk at the top of the hierarchy.

And Police Scotland has reiterated that it is the“responsibility of individual road users”to be familiar with the code.

The new hierarchy is as follows: pedestrians; cyclists; horse riders; motorcyclists; cars; vans; and larger vehicles.

The new changes mean that vehicles will no longer have priority at junctions, but instead must now give way to pedestrians.

Other new rules include cyclists having priority over cars when cars turn and changes to cyclist positioning to ensure better visibility.
