Reid:rovers deservedat leastadraw

Albion Rovers fell to a 2-0 defeat at title-chasing Forfar on Saturday, but boss Brian Reid says they’ll have played worse and won games.

Reid felt the Coatbridge side more than matched their hosts for large periods of the game, but were struck down by two set-piece goals from Andy Munro.

But Reid felt his side were well in the game.

He said:“we actually played quite well, but if you don’t take your chances and you lose two really poor goals from two set-pieces... that was the difference.

“Overall we were probably every bit as good as them, if not better, in terms of game-play.

“But two crosses into the box weren’t dealt with, and the boy has two free headers to score two goals out of nothing – that’s not good enough.

“Other than that Cammy Binnie’s not had much to do.

“That was the difference, and it could have been a different game, but I can’t keep saying the same thing – we’ve got to be better than that.

“We probably created better chances but if you don’t defend two set-pieces properly and you don’t take your chances you get the result that we did.

“I’m disappointed, but we’ve just got to pick ourselves up.”

Reid added:“i’d rather play badly and win the game, but it was an improved performance on last week.

“We were more creative, created chances, passed the ball better, on an astroturf pitch, which made it a bit easier.

“But the only difference between us winning today and not getting anything was two set pieces that we didn’t defend properly, and they scored two goals from it – set pieces are massively important.

“You’ve got to be better in the opposition box for taking your chances, because we put some decent balls in, but you’ve got to be a bit more aggressive to really want to score a goal.

“In your own box, you’ve got to be far better.”

With Scottish Cup games scheduled for this weekend, Rovers aren’t in action until they travel to Edinburgh City on Tuesday, and Reid said he’d rather they were playing sooner.

“When you lose a game you want to try and get back to winning ways,”he said.

“We need to start getting back to the way we were in the early part of the season, start winning games, creating chances, scoring goals and defending properly.

“The sooner we can get back to doing that the better.”
