-

Police in Airdrie are asking for help after a man was left fighting for his life in hospital.

The victim was mowed down by what officers believe to be a dark-coloured Porsche in a hit and run.

The 41-year-old was left with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle on Forrest Street, near to its junction with Colston Road, on Thursday.

He was rushed to Monklands Hospital for treatment after the incident, which took place around 5.35pm, before being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, where his injuries are described as“life-threatening”.

Police have now confirmed that enquiries have established that the car involved was a black or dark-coloured Porsche with a dark soft top.

The vehicle has not yet been traced and officers are urging the driver to come forward and contact police.

Although the vehicle did stop at the scene, the driver did not speak to officers.

Sergeant Craig Mcdonald said:“our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of the car involved, who did stop at the scene, but has not yet spoken to officers.

“I am asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or was in the area around the time of the crash to get in touch.

“I would also ask if there are any other motorists with possible dashcam footage or anyone with information that may help with our investigation to contact police.”

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact police on 101.
