Find 28 ways to raise cash for charity

- NIKI TENNANT

National charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is inviting supporters to take on any challenge during the month of February involving the number 28 to raise cash to change the lives of deaf people.

The fundraiser, dubbed ‘The 28 Challenge’, is raising money to help train more life-changing hearing dogs that alert deaf children and adults to important and life-saving sounds and provide the love, companionship and emotional support that will allow them to leave loneliness behind.

Those who are interested in participating need only to think of a fun activity, register on the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People website and ask friends and family to sponsor them.

The charity offers some suggestions, including baking and selling 28 cakes, knitting every day for 28 days or running 28 miles in February.

Everyone who registers will receive a free fundraising pack, a 28 Challenge tracker card and three cute puppy postcards.

Anyone who raises over £100 will also receive a free puppy sponsorship – a fantastic way to see how the money raised helps train these life-changing puppies.

A spokesperson for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People said:“the 28 Challenge is a fun way for people to challenge themselves while also raising money to change deaf people’s lives. It is open to all ages and encompasses all interests.

“We have seen a huge range of challenges so far including swimming, baking and walking.

“We’ve also seen many inventive ideas, like completing 28 random acts of kindness and not sitting down for 28 days. The possibilities are endless.

“It costs around £40,000 to fully train and support a hearing dog for the duration of its life and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People relies completely on donations.

“Each person who takes part in The 28 Challenge will make a huge difference to help deaf people leave loneliness behind and reconnect with life.”
