Gather round a table to raise funds for Maggie’s
Centre users at Maggie’s Lanarkshire are asking residents across the county to take part in the much-anticipated return of the charity’s annual kitchen table day.
The special showcase event invites groups of relatives, friends or colleagues to come together on Friday, March 25, to raise funds by sharing tea and cake, fish and chips, fun board games or any other social gathering around a table.
Visitors, volunteers and staff at the Airdrie centre are preparing for their own kitchen table day later this month in support of its work helping people with cancer and their loved ones.
The kitchen table is at the heart of every Maggie’s centre, including the tranquil and awardwinning Lanarkshire centre in the grounds of Airdrie’s Monklands Hospital.
It represents the first stop for new visitors where they can join the supportive conversation with other people who understand what it means to be living with cancer and meet staff members who can help with advice ranging from counselling support to practical assistance with financial matters.
Maggie’s also assists the family and friends of people with cancer, and support is also available by phone and online, with the centre having moved its support programme online during the coronavirus pandemic.
Centre head Lorrie Cameron told the Advertiser: “I can’t wait to see the wonderful events that the kind-hearted people of Lanarkshire come up with to help make Maggie’s kitchen table day 2022 a success.
“It’s been a difficult couple of years for everyone, so hosting
a kitchen table day is a great opportunity for people to get together safely, have fun and raise funds to help us to support people with cancer and their family and
friends at a very hard time in their lives.”
Kitchen table days will take place across the country on March 25, and participants
can visit maggies.org/ kitchentableday for information and to register for a free pack, T-shirt and bunting.
