Council expands gym membership discount

More residents in Monklands are being provided with an extra incentive to stay fit and active.

North Lanarkshie Council are expanding their discounted annual gym membership so that anyone over the age over 60 is now able to save money.

The cost of the council gym membership is being slashed to just £50 for the whole year.

The Active 60 scheme follows the hugely successful launch of a similar one for over 65s.

Residents in these age categories can take advantage of this great offer which gives access to leisure facilities, fitness classes, swimming, health suites and much more in venues across the area.

Jim Logue, leader of North Lanarkshire Council said: “We launched our Active 65s membership last year and the uptake was fantastic.

“Many people were asking if this could be extended to include over 60s and we are delighted to be able to make this happen.

“Participation at our gyms has really taken off after the lockdown restrictions were eased and these offers will hopefully encourage even more people to stay active more often.

“Going to the leisure centre or a fitness class can be about so much more than just keeping fit, it’s a great place to meet new people, catch-up with friends and boost your physical and mental health wellbeing.

“As a council, we are continuing to invest substantially in improving our leisure facilities and to make them as accessible and affordable as possible.

“No matter if you are an existing member or someone looking to take up a new classes or exercise, these discounted memberships for over 60s are a great incentive to keep active.”
