Donate dog and rabbit toys

-

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for Monklands people to donate enrichment toys to keep bunnies and dogs in their care active and entertained.

The charity’s Lanarkshire animal rescue and rehoming centre needs enrichment activities for the animals to prevent boredom, build confidence, and provide mental and physical stimulation.

These items allow animals to appropriately display natural behaviours like sniffing and chewing and it’s a good way to manage their energy, keep them calm and help them to learn good habits.

Centre manager Gillian Boyle said: “Your support means that we can continue to provide the best care for all the animals at our centre.

“These toys can help bunnies like Jacky, a charming young male rabbit who has been with us for 134 days.

“Jacky is undeniably adorable, and his favourite pastimes include munching on hay, chewing on and playing with enrichment toys, and exploring his enclosure.

“Macy is a beautiful white bunny who is now ready to find her home after 189 days in our care.

“Macy prefers to have all four feet on the ground, however, she is happy to accept nose rubs in return for a tasty bit of veg. It’s important that she has things to chew and toys that encourage her to eat lots of hay to keep her teeth in check.

“And we can’t forget Edam and Stilton, our bonded pair of bunnies who have been with us for 217 days.

“They need plenty of space to explore and play with plenty of enrichment – their favourite thing to do is play about with cardboard boxes.”

Items can be donated via the centre’s Amazon wish list or sent from another online retailer that can deliver.

They can also be dropped in to the centre reception daily between 1pm and 4pm at Scottish SPCA Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, Bothwell Road, Hamilton, ML3 0SB.
