Nathan on the bill at Royal Highland Show

Musician all set for Hoolie

- JUDITH TONNER

Airdrie singer- songwriter Nathan Evans will be taking to the stage at a special musical performance taking place as part of the Royal Highland Show.

The musician is among four acts on the bill for the first night of the Royal Highland Hoolie in June, alongside headliners Tide Lines, six-piece ceilidh band Trail West and popular folk music band The Peatbog Faeries.

He will be performing at the Edinburgh venue on Friday, June 21, while the following night’s bill at the event stars singers Derek Ryan and Lisa Mchugh, Highland accordionist Calum Macphail and a special appearance from Cotton Eye Joe chart-toppers Rednex.

Nathan rose to fame three years ago when his Tiktok sea shanties including his version of traditional song Wellerman went viral, gaining eight million views online and ultimately going to the top of the UK chart.

He has recently released new song Heather on the Hill, as well as a track called Home – which he has described as “a song for Scotland” and which football fans have begun calling for as an unofficial anthem for the national squad heading to this summer’s European championship in Germany.

The Highland Hoolie is run in partnership with promoters Farmers Bash and takes place over the same weekend as the Royal Highland Show run each year by organisers from the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland.

RHASS chairman Jim Warnock said: “The Highland Hoolie brings together some of the very best of Scotland and Ireland’s homegrown talent to the Royal Highland Centre.

“We’re honoured to have some of the best names across folk and country music join us as to contribute towards what we hope to be a fantastic weekend for the agricultural and wider community.”

Farmers Bash organiser Nigel Campbell, added: “The Highland Hoolie offers something for everyone; we’re excited to have some fantastic names join our line-up this year and encourage those hoping to come along to get their tickets early.”

Tickets to either the concerts or including admission to the Royal Highland Show are available by logging onto the show website at www.royalhighlandshow.org.
