LETTER OF THE MONTH WINS THE JACK PYKE HUNTERS BOOTS
First, Terry, I’m not writing this letter to try to win a pair of boots. Actually, I’ve already got a pair and they’re excellent. I’m writing to tell you about a mate of mine who was a bit low, to say the least, after his wife passed away. They’d been together for 52 years and my mate (I’d rather not name him), believed life had nothing left to offer him. Then, I invited him to stay with me for a few days and while he was here, I introduced him to airgun shooting.
It turns out he’d been a keen shot in his younger days and he was soon giving me a run for my money on the 40-yard targets I have on my property. Just a few weeks on from his introduction, my mate is now the proud owner of an Air Arms Ultimate Sporter and Hawke scope combination, and it’s not the slightest exaggeration to say he has his life back again. I’m sure there’s more to it than simply his discovering airgunning, but that’s definitely where his revival started, as he has told me many times. As I write, my mate has just driven away with two years’ worth of back issues of your excellent magazine and I’m getting him a subscription for Christmas.
That’s all from me, save to say, this fantastic sport of ours really is more than just messing about with airguns, and if any readers have a friend who needs a bit more in their life, they might try introducing them to airgunning.
Desmond – you may not need another pair of those splendid Jack Pyke boots, but I bet you know someone who does. Please let me know the size required and we’ll take care of the rest. Meanwhile, well done on the part you played in helping your friend reclaim his life. As you say, our wonderful sport is much more than it appears to many, and I echo your advice to anyone with a friend in need. All
the best to you and your mate. – Ed
