BSA in­struc­tions ex­plained the ri­fle’s pis­ton ring was lu­bri­cated with molyslip grease at the fac­tory and should not be oiled be­cause oil could di­lute the spe­cial lu­bri­cant. The sup­plied BSA oil was there­fore in­tended to lu­bri­cate the cock­ing lever slide and axis pins rather than the pis­ton cham­ber.
