CHILDREN at an Aldershot school were visited by a dog as they learned about the responsibilities involved with owning one.

St Michael’s School hosted Dogs Trust education and community officer Sara-Jane Leslie and her dogs Rosie and Molly in the first visit organised by the charity.

They received an excited reception from the pupils, who were taught about safety around dogs and responsible ownership during the visit last month.

The Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, appointed Sara-Jane, along with four other new officers in the country, using funds provided by People’s Postcode Lottery.

Sara-Jane explained: “I can’t wait to visit more schools in the south to share the important messages of staying safe around dogs and being a responsible dog owner.”

She added: “It is so important that we support the next generation of dog owners to help them understand the responsibility of owning and caring for a dog and I am proud to be a part of this.”

Hazel Johnstone, trusts manager at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “We are delighted that players of People’s Postcode Lottery are able to help fund Sara-Jane’s role to teach children across southern England how to interact and care for dogs.”
