Police CCTV appeal after ear bite attack

-

A POLICE investigation has been launched after a man had part of his ear bitten off in a late-night attack in Aldershot.

A 46-year-old man was assaulted as he tried to intervene after seeing another man being punched between 2am and 2.30am on Sunday June 1 in Victoria Road.

The attacker pushed the victim to the ground and bit part of his ear off. He was taken to Frimley Park Hospital where he required surgery.

Hampshire Constabulary has released a CCTV image of the man officers want to speak to as he may be able to help with their enquiries.

The Aldershot attack happened on the same night as the much-hyped Carl Froch vs George Groves boxing match, witnessed by many in the town. Police officers are appealing to anyone who was out watching the fight and who may have seen the attack to come forward.

It was also during the same month as Uruguay’s Luis Suarez’s infamous biting of another player during the FIFA World Cup while an England football supporter had a piece of his ear bitten off by a fellow Brit during a separate match.

Detective Constable Sarah Moyce-Phillips, from Aldershot CID, said: “This incident occurred on a bank holiday weekend when many pubs in the area had televised the boxing match between Carl Froch and George Groves.

“Were you out that night watching the match and did you witness this incident?”

Anyone with information should contact DC MoycePhillips on 101 or Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555111.
