Register office is ‘safe’ despite sale
THE building in Aldershot that houses the town's register office will be sold, but a further commitment has been pledged to making sure Rushmoor does not lose the service.
At a decision day held by Hampshire County Council last month, an update on the marketing of the building at 30 Grosvenor Road was read and it was decided that it would be sold.
However, the register office will remain in a leased part of the building until a new home is found for it and council leader Roy Perry added a further recommendation emphasising the council’s commitment to keep a register office in the borough in the long-term.
The sale is aimed at making better use of public buildings and providing opportunities for closer partnership working in the delivery of front-line services.
It is part of the council’s office rationalisation programme Workstyle, which should reduce running costs by a quarter, cut floor space by more than a third and generate £15 million through the sale of buildings.
