More retained firefighters to be employed

-

HAMPSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service is looking for new recruits in the Fleet area for its on-call firefighter team.

Successful applicants, who are available from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, will receive full firefighter training and respond to a variety of incidents, including fires, road traffic collisions and animal and water rescues.

Paul Robson, Fleet’s station manager, said: “Retained firefighters are a key part of the fire and rescue service in Hampshire, and they come from a cross section of our community.

“They are trained and paid for responding, and do the same job as full-time firefighters.

“Being a retained firefighter is not just about attending incidents whenever you’re required. It’s about teamwork and helping the local community. These are ordinary people doing an extraordinary job.”

Applicants should live or work within four minutes’ travel time from the fire station in Connaught Road. They are expected to attend training sessions one night per week and will receive a ‘retaining fee’ and additional payments for any courses or incidents they attend.

Anyone who wants to find out more is invited to a recruitment open evening at the station on Tuesday July 22 from 7pm to 9pm.
