Gig on the Green star lights up Brum at Wireless festival

-

Y'S very own Alexa Goddard saw her music career reach new heights at the weekend, as she shared a festival stage with the likes of Bruno Mars, Outkast and Ellie Goulding.

The ex-Yateley School pupil – a recent signing to Jay Z’s record label Roc Nation – opened the main stage of the Wireless festival, held in Birmingham on Saturday and then north London the following day.

The singer, 25, who has just released the single and video for Marilyn, was awestruck with the event, a gigantic leap from her Yateley Gig on the Green performance, back in 2011.

And fans were quick to respond on showiTTwitter, ng their support for her whirlwind journey with messages including: “you’ve come so far since I started following you #amazing”, and “doing Yateley proud!”.

Goddard said she was “ecstatic” to be performing at a music festival of which she is a big fan.

“I went to Wireless last year to watch and I couldn’t wait to perform on stage there one day,” she said. “After the event, my management said they would see what they could do. I am so happy and feel so lucky.”

Wireless Festival, launched in 2005 and managed by Live Nation, visits both London and Birmingham this year, having started solely in Hyde Park.

Goddard, who started singing at the age of 14 and studied at Yateley School, performed at Yateley’s first ever music festival, Gig on the Green, in 2011. In March 2010, she created YouTube channel AlexaMusicTV and uploaded various videos of her own covers of R&B hits and released four cover versions as singles.
