Back to school for MP Gove
Manor School opened its doors to education secretary and Surrey Heath MP Michael Gove last month as he made a round of visits to local schools.
Mr Gove took a tour of the secondary school, in Manor Road, with headteacher David Garrido, watched lessons and met students and staff.
The Conservative minister, known for his traditional views on education, also spent time in a Latin class, a subject new to the school’s curriculum this year.
Mr Garrido said: “I am immensely proud of the hard work and dedication of the students and staff at Ash Manor and it was a real pleasure to be able to show the secretary of state what a great school we have. As a school community, we aspire to give every student the opportunity to achieve success and are delighted.”
In December, Ash Manor was rated ‘good’ following an Ofsted inspection, an improvement on the ‘satisfactory’ rating it received after a 2010 inspection.
Mr Gove told the headteacher the school should be very proud of what it had achieved.
