Garden gang happy with greenhouse

-

A SCHOOL gardening club is back on track after its greenhouse was destroyed by bad weather.

St Peter’s School, in ChurchAvenue,Farnborough, runs a weekly, extra-curricular, gardening club for students to grow flowers and vegetables.

However, the students’ work came to a halt at the beginning of the year as the club’s greenhouse was seriously damaged by stormy weather.

Headteacher Matthew Rixson said: “The greenhouse was a plastic material and we managed to get it repaired but it was eventually completely destroyed, after a second bout of strong winds, so the gardening club was quite upset. We looked at replacing the greenhouse but unfortunately funds wouldn’t allow us to, so the students wrote to local gardening centres to ask for their help.”

Redfields Garden Centre in Church Crookham responded to the children’s pleas and donated a new greenhouse.

Mr Rixson said: “They offered to give us a new greenhouse free of charge, which was very positive, and the students have been really happy with it and have managed to grow things in it already.

“We have around 12 to 15 children taking part in the club and it’s very popular. We have entered Rushmoor in Bloom this year.”
