Powell: I’ll give Fizzers a whole new Chris a life

-

NEW boss Chris Powell is looking to put the Fizz back into the Fizzers – and mastermind Sandhurst Town’s climb back into the CCL Premier.

The Bottom Meadow side suffered a desperately disappointing first season at Step 6, culminating in a humiliating 11-2 final day defeat to local rivals Eversley & California.

Now, former CCL player and youth team coach Powell has been brought in to replace Shannon Ruth in the Fizzers hotseat and has quietly gone about re-building the first-team squad, while the clubhouse and ground have undergone a complete re-fit.

But, despite giving Conference South Farnborough an almighty scare in the pre-season opener last Saturday, the new boss won’t be getting carried away and refuses to reveal his targets for the new division one season.

“We’ve had a total re-build here starting with just three players on our books from last year. We’ve had to start all over again,” Powell said.

“I’ve had to call in a few players and few favours from people and they were good enough to give me a go, but as you can see by giving a good account of ourselves against Farnborough we’ve got off to a pretty good start.

“We’ve no budget here whatsoever so everything has to come from us, as part of a family, and just aim as high as we can. It’s early days of course, but we showed glimpses today of how good we think we can be.

“We are not here just the make the numbers up, the players have been given targets and it’ll nice to hit those targets.

“Our initial target though has to be to get 11 men out on the pitch, stabilise the club and go from there.”
