Jewellery thief jailed

-

A MAN has been sent to prison for committing a string of burglaries in Farnham earlier this year.

Lewis Kelleher, 26, of Back Street in Biggleswade, was sentenced to three years and eight months at Guildford Crown Court last Monday.

After he was arrested on June 16 for a burglary in Callow Hill, Virginia Water, Kelleher admitted to carrying out six burglaries in the Farnham area on May 30 in daylight hours.

Specifically targeting jewellery, he ransacked houses in Lynch Road, Monks Well and Abbots Ride, along with two in Broomleaf Road. Kelleher also owned up to breaking into a property in Hookley Lane, Elstead.

More than £50,000 worth of goods was estimated to have been stolen in the raids, running alongside damage totalling hundreds of pounds. Police credited its social media appeal for helping with the investigation, after a black Triumph Daytona 675 with a Union Jack on its side was seen leaving one of the burgled properties.

The motorbike was later found in London after a member of public had recognised it from the appeal.

Detective Constable Chris Woolford, the investigating officer, believes the sentence reflects ‘ how seriously burglary is treated’.

He said: “These were brazen offences carried out in the middle of the day targeting expensive jewellery items which amounted to thousands of pounds.

“Kelleher was arrested after committing a burglary in Virginia Water and he later admitted to breaking into six further addresses in and around Farnham.

“It shows our determination to relentlessly pursue those persistent and repeat offenders who make the lives of those they target a misery.”
