A mythical world of literacy of offer

-

MORE than 100 young people stepped into the wonderful world of make believe when they signed up to a reading challenge at Fleet Library.

Boys and girls visited the library on July 12 to take part in Reading Agency’s annual summer reading challenge.

The event encourages children to continue reading throughout their long summer break from school, earning themselves stickers, a medal and certificate as they go.

Ginny Arnison, assistant library manager, said: “We are delighted that 125 children signed up at Fleet Library to take part in mythical maze on our launch day.

“This year’s theme – mythical maze – introduces children to a fantastical world of legends and myths, with illustrations by children’s illustrator and writer, Sarah McIntyre.

“The summer reading challenge gains more popularity at Fleet Library with each year and we are hoping for another record breaking year.

“The Reading Agency has also introduced a new summer reading challenge app as well as online games and resources for participants to enjoy over the summer.

“If your child has not participated before, we would encourage them to do so. It really is a wonderful way to share books and encourage reading during the summer holidays and there is still plenty of time to sign up.”

The free challenge, aimed at children aged four to 11, runs until September 13. To sign up visit the library in Fleet Road.
